Each cartridge holds 43,000 mg of ascorbic acid, which reacts with chlorine on contact and turns it into harmless chloride. The gel also carries glycerin, tea tree extract and prickly pear cactus seed oil into the water, plus the scent you chose.

No. The cartridge is self-contained and screws straight onto your shower arm, between the arm and the shower head you already own. The Pluvering is an optional shower head we designed to pair with it.

If your shower head or hose screws onto a standard half-inch thread, yes, and that covers nearly every shower in the US. Handheld on a hose, fixed head and rain head all work.

If your shower head is built into the wall with no accessible thread, it will not fit.

Unscrew your shower head or hose, twist Pluvena onto the exposed thread, screw the head or hose back on. Thirty seconds, no tools, and it comes off the same way when you move.

No. The water passes through at full flow and stays clear.

Each cartridge filters up to about 1,900 gallons, or roughly 120 showers at about 16 gallons each. For one person showering once a day that is about four months. For a household of four, about one month.

Longer showers, a high-flow head or more heavily chlorinated water will use it up faster.

Look at it. The colored gel fades as the vitamin C is spent, so a cartridge that has run a hundred showers does not look like a new one. When the gel is nearly clear, twist on the next one. No app, no reminder, no calendar.

Reorder when the gel is nearly gone rather than on a fixed schedule, because how fast you get through a cartridge depends on how many people use the shower and how long they stay in it.

Prefer not to think about it? The subscription sends a new cartridge every month at a lower price, which suits most homes where several people share the shower. You can pause or cancel at any time.

Yes. Every cartridge is sold on its own in Grapefruit, Mango, Lavender or Lime, and the vitamin C formula is the same in all four. Only the scent and the color of the gel change. Plenty of people rotate scents with the seasons.

Yes. Nonfat dry milk is in the formula. It is a rinse-off product, so contact time is short, but if you have a milk allergy you should know it is there before you buy.

The formula is dermatologist skin-irritation tested and rated non-irritant, and it is free of parabens, sulfates, silicones and mineral oil. Heavy metals were not detected. It is a rinse-off product, so contact time is short.

Yes, and it helps. Chlorine is one of the main reasons blonde, red and pastel tones fade between salon visits. Less chlorine in the water means the color holds longer.

Subtle. It rides the steam while the water is running and fades within a few minutes of you stepping out. Lavender is the softest of the four. It is a fragrance, so if you are fragrance-sensitive, treat it as you would any scented product.

No, and we would rather tell you now than refund you later. Pluvena neutralizes chlorine and chloramine. Limescale, chalky residue on the glass and soap that will not lather are caused by calcium and magnesium, and those need a water softener.

If your problem is tightness, itching, frizz or fading color, chlorine is the likely culprit and that is what Pluvena is built for.

No. Nothing that screws onto a shower arm removes those well, whatever the marketing says. Pluvena does one job and publishes the dose it does it with.

Yes. Vitamin C removes chlorine by chemical reduction, not by trapping it, so heat does not slow it down.

Carbon and KDF filters work by adsorption, which needs contact time and cool water, and a hot eight-minute shower gives them neither.

Yes. Many US cities have switched from free chlorine to chloramine because it stays in the pipes longer. Ascorbic acid reduces both.
